Depending on your requirement, larger rods can be specifically imported or added to one of our scheduled overseas shipments.

Both are Nylon engineering plastics, but their stock sizes and manufacturing methods make them useful for different types of components.
Black Cast Nylon vs Natural Cast Nylon — which should I choose?
Black and Natural Cast Nylon share many of the same general engineering characteristics, but the appropriate choice depends on the application.
Choose Black Cast Nylon where a black appearance is preferred for general industrial and mechanical components.
Choose Natural / Ivory Cast Nylon where the natural colour is preferred or where your application requires supporting compliance documentation associated with the Natural Nylon material.
Does Cast Nylon absorb moisture?
Yes. Nylon is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the surrounding environment.
Moisture absorption can cause dimensional change and can influence some mechanical properties.
This is particularly important for large components with close finished tolerances, especially where the part operates in wet or humid conditions.
Where low moisture absorption and very strong dimensional stability are the main priorities, Acetal may be worth considering instead.
Machining Cast Nylon Rod
Cast Nylon can be turned, milled, drilled and bored using conventional machining equipment.
Sharp tooling, controlled feed rates and good chip clearance help reduce heat build-up and improve surface finish.
Larger Nylon components may contain machining stresses and can move as material is removed. Where close tolerances are required, machining strategy and allowance for dimensional movement should be considered.
Moisture and temperature conditions should also be considered where finished dimensions are critical.
Cast Nylon vs Acetal and HDPE — which should I choose?
The best engineering plastic depends on the mechanical, dimensional and environmental requirements of the finished part.
Oils, fuels and chemical resistance
Cast Nylon offers useful resistance to many oils, greases and fuels, which contributes to its popularity for mechanical and industrial components.
Chemical resistance should still be checked for the specific chemical, concentration, operating temperature and exposure duration.
