Product Information

Everything you need to choose with confidence.

Is Natural / White HDPE Sheet right for my application?

Natural / White HDPE Sheet is an excellent choice where you need a tough plastic with very low moisture absorption, good chemical resistance and a low-friction surface.

It is particularly useful for food-processing components, cutting-board applications, work surfaces, guides, wear components, liners and general machined or fabricated parts.

HDPE is less rigid than materials such as Acetal, so another engineering plastic may be preferable where high stiffness or very close dimensional tolerances are the main requirement.

Food-contact compliance

The material used for our Natural / White HDPE Sheet is supported by supplier technical documentation confirming FDA food compliance and EU 10/2011 food compliance.

This makes it a strong choice for suitable food-processing and food-handling applications, including cutting surfaces, guides, liners and other fabricated or machined components.

Where your application requires specific certification, traceability or approval by an equipment manufacturer or regulatory body, please contact Warlond Plastics before ordering so the requirements can be confirmed.

Machining and fabricating HDPE Sheet

HDPE can be cut, drilled, routed and machined using conventional plastic-working equipment and suitable sharp tooling.

Sharp cutting tools and good chip clearance help reduce heat build-up. Excessive heat should be avoided because HDPE can soften during machining.

HDPE also has greater thermal expansion and lower rigidity than materials such as Acetal, so allow for material movement where close dimensional tolerances are important.

Warlond Plastics can provide panel-saw cutting and CNC routing for suitable HDPE sheet projects.

Can HDPE Sheet be welded or bent?

HDPE is a thermoplastic and can be fabricated using suitable plastic-welding techniques. It may also be formed or bent using controlled heating methods depending on the sheet thickness and required component.

HDPE has relatively high thermal expansion, so the forming process, finished dimensions and service temperature should be considered when designing the component.

Where dimensional accuracy is important, trial forming is recommended before producing the final part.

Can HDPE Sheet be glued?

HDPE has a low-energy surface and is generally difficult to bond using ordinary adhesives.

Mechanical fastening or plastic welding is often more reliable. Specialised primers, surface treatments and adhesive systems can sometimes be used, but the bonding process should be tested before relying on an adhesive joint.

Natural / White vs Black HDPE Sheet — which should I choose?

Both materials share the useful characteristics of HDPE, but the best choice depends on the application.

Natural / White HDPE Sheet Choose Natural / White for suitable food-contact applications, cutting surfaces, food-processing components and general indoor or wet-environment fabrication.
Black HDPE Sheet → Choose Black HDPE where sustained outdoor or UV exposure, marine use or a black finished component is required.
Can Natural / White HDPE Sheet be used outdoors?

Natural / White HDPE is not our preferred option for sustained outdoor UV exposure.

For long-term outdoor applications, we recommend our UV-stabilised Black HDPE Sheet, which is intended for improved outdoor weathering performance.

Technical properties

Supplier technical documentation provides the following typical values for the material:

Density 0.957 g/cm³
Tensile modulus 1250 MPa
Yield stress 28 MPa
Shore hardness 64 Shore D
Temperature range −50°C to +80°C
FDA food compliance Yes
EU 10/2011 food compliance Yes

Technical values are typical rather than guaranteed design values. Suitability should be confirmed for applications with critical mechanical, temperature or regulatory requirements.
