Black HDPE Rod is a PE100 high-density polyethylene engineering plastic with low moisture absorption, strong chemical resistance, good impact toughness and low friction. It is commonly used for bushes, spacers, rollers, guides, wear components, marine parts, outdoor components, jigs, low-friction parts and general machined components, particularly where moisture resistance or outdoor exposure is important.

Is Black HDPE Rod right for my application?
Black HDPE Rod is a good choice when you need a tough, moisture-resistant engineering plastic with low friction and strong resistance to many chemicals.
It is particularly useful for outdoor, marine, wet and general industrial applications where corrosion resistance and low moisture absorption are important.
Compared with stiffer engineering plastics such as Acetal, HDPE is more flexible and may not be the best choice where very tight tolerances or high rigidity are required.

Machining Black HDPE Rod
HDPE can be machined on conventional equipment using sharp, positive-rake tooling.
Keep cutting tools sharp and avoid excessive heat build-up. Good chip clearance is important because HDPE can soften if too much heat is generated during machining.
HDPE is less rigid and has greater thermal expansion than metals and materials such as Acetal, so allow for material movement where close dimensional tolerances are required.
Rod is supplied as standard 1000mm lengths. Warlond Plastics does not offer custom rod cutting or fabrication.
Is Black HDPE Rod suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. This Black HDPE Rod is suitable for outdoor and UV-exposed applications and is the preferred HDPE rod option where sustained outdoor exposure is expected.
Black HDPE is commonly selected for outdoor, marine and exposed industrial parts because of its moisture resistance, chemical resistance and outdoor suitability.
Black vs Natural / White HDPE — which should I choose?
Black and Natural / White HDPE share many of the same core HDPE characteristics, but the best choice depends on the application.
Is Black HDPE suitable for food-contact applications?
For food-contact applications, we recommend considering Natural / White HDPE Rod unless you have documentation confirming that the specific black grade meets the regulatory requirements for your application.

Engineering plastic rod is supplied as semi-finished machining stock and may not be supplied as an exact finished diameter. Allow machining stock where a specific finished tolerance is required.
Can HDPE Rod be glued or bonded?
HDPE has a low-energy surface and is generally difficult to bond using ordinary adhesives.
Mechanical fastening or plastic welding is often more reliable. Specialised primers, surface treatments and adhesives may be used in some applications, but suitability should be tested before relying on an adhesive joint.
When might another engineering plastic be better?
HDPE is versatile and economical, but another material may be better where the application requires greater rigidity, tighter dimensional control or different friction and temperature performance.
