Red 90 Shore A Polyurethane Rod is a hard polyurethane elastomer that combines excellent abrasion resistance with resilience and impact absorption. What does 90 Shore A hardness mean?
Shore A is a hardness scale commonly used for rubber-like and elastomeric materials.
90 Shore A polyurethane is relatively hard for an elastomer, but it is still more flexible and resilient than rigid plastics such as Acetal, Nylon or PVC.
This combination of hardness and resilience makes 90A polyurethane useful where a component needs to resist wear and impact while retaining some ability to flex under load.
Is Red 90A Polyurethane Rod right for my application?
90A Polyurethane Rod is a strong choice where you need abrasion resistance, impact absorption, resilience and vibration damping.
It can be especially useful for rollers, bushes, impact pads, bumpers, guides and components that repeatedly contact or rub against other surfaces.
If the component instead requires very high rigidity, close dimensional stability or very low deformation under load, a rigid engineering plastic such as Acetal may be more suitable.

Machining 90A Polyurethane Rod
90 Shore A polyurethane can be machined, but it behaves differently from rigid engineering plastics because it can flex and deform under cutting pressure.
Sharp tooling, controlled cutting conditions and secure but non-distorting workholding are important.
Machining techniques may need to be adjusted depending on the diameter, component geometry and required tolerance.
Warlond Plastics supplies the rod as machining stock and does not offer custom rod cutting or fabrication.
Available diameters and lengths
Our Red Polyurethane Rod is stocked in 90 Shore A hardness only and red colour only.
Length depends on diameter:
- 10mm diameter — 500mm length
- 15mm diameter — 500mm length
- All other stocked diameters — 1000mm length

Diameter tolerances
Polyurethane rod is supplied as semi-finished machining stock and diameter tolerances are broader than those of precision-machined finished components.

Polyurethane differs significantly from the rigid engineering plastics in our range.
Chemical and environmental suitability
Polyurethane can offer useful resistance to oils, greases and many industrial environments, but chemical resistance varies considerably with polyurethane formulation.
Suitability depends on the exact chemical, concentration, temperature and duration of exposure.
