Opal Polycarbonate Sheet · UV2

High-impact opal full-size sheet for diffused light and reduced visibility.

Opal Polycarbonate UV2 Sheet combines high impact resistance with a light-diffusing opal finish. It is well suited to skylights, pergolas, roofing, privacy screens, lighting applications and fabricated panels where softer transmitted light and reduced direct visibility are preferred.

Is Opal Polycarbonate right for my application?

Opal Polycarbonate is a strong choice where you need high impact resistance, outdoor UV protection and diffused transmitted light.

Unlike Clear Polycarbonate, the opal finish reduces direct visibility through the sheet and spreads transmitted light more softly.

This makes it particularly useful for skylights, pergolas, privacy screens, lighting covers, roofing and glazing where a transparent sheet would allow too much direct visibility or glare.

What does UV2 Polycarbonate mean?

UV2 means the Polycarbonate Sheet has UV protection on both sides.

This is useful for outdoor installations because either face of the sheet can be exposed.

UV stabilisation helps improve resistance to degradation caused by prolonged sunlight exposure compared with non-UV-stabilised Polycarbonate grades.

What does the Opal finish do?

The Opal finish is designed to diffuse transmitted light and reduce direct visibility through the sheet.

Instead of providing a clear view through the material, the opal appearance spreads light more evenly and creates a softer visual effect.

Opal Polycarbonate should not be treated as a transparent clear sheet. If maximum visibility is required, choose Clear UV2 Polycarbonate instead.

Opal Polycarbonate is currently available in 2440 × 1220mm only. We do not currently offer the larger 2440 × 1830mm sheet format in Opal.

Can Opal Polycarbonate be cold bent or curved?

Yes. Polycarbonate can be cold curved into suitable gentle-radius shapes without heating.

This can be useful for curved glazing, protective covers and architectural applications.

The minimum allowable cold-forming radius depends on the sheet thickness and requirements of the supplied Polycarbonate grade. Tight cold bends should not be forced.

For critical cold-curved installations, contact Warlond Plastics before ordering so the application can be considered.

Can Opal Polycarbonate be heat bent or formed?

Yes. Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic and can be formed using controlled heating techniques.

Heat forming is useful where the required bend is tighter or more complex than a gentle cold curve.

Sheet thickness, bend radius, heating method and moisture condition can affect the finished result. Suitable drying and forming procedures may be required for demanding fabrication.

Cutting, drilling and machining Opal Polycarbonate

Opal Polycarbonate can be cut, drilled and routed using suitable tooling and fabrication techniques.

Sharp tools, appropriate feed rates and good support help reduce heat build-up and improve edge quality.

Where mechanical fasteners are used, allow appropriate clearance for thermal movement and avoid excessive tightening against the sheet.

Can Opal Polycarbonate be glued?

Yes. Polycarbonate can be bonded with compatible adhesive systems, but care is required because some solvents can cause stress cracking or surface damage.

For suitable Polycarbonate fabrication projects, SCIGRIP WELD-ON 16 is one bonding option available from Warlond Plastics.

Bonding suitability depends on joint design, fabrication stress, adhesive quantity and service conditions. Test the bonding method where finished appearance or structural performance is important.

Both materials can provide an opal appearance and diffused light, but their strengths are different.

Choose Opal Polycarbonate Better where high impact resistance, outdoor UV2 protection and cold-forming ability are important.
Consider Opal Acrylic Better where surface hardness, display appearance or polished fabrication quality are more important than impact resistance.
