Natural / White HDPE Rod is a PE100 high-density polyethylene engineering plastic with low moisture absorption, strong chemical resistance, good impact toughness and low friction. It is commonly machined into bushes, spacers, rollers, guides, food-processing components, wear parts and general-purpose mechanical components.

Is Natural / White HDPE Rod right for my application?
Natural / White HDPE Rod is a good choice when you need a tough, moisture-resistant engineering plastic with low friction and strong resistance to many chemicals.
It is particularly useful for food-processing equipment, wet environments, bushes, spacers, rollers, guides and general machined components.
Compared with Acetal, HDPE is less rigid and has greater thermal movement, so Acetal may be preferable where very tight dimensional tolerances or greater stiffness are required.

Is Natural / White HDPE Rod suitable for food-contact applications?
Yes. The HDPE resin used to manufacture our Natural / White HDPE Rod is supported by manufacturer documentation stating that the material is suitable for applicable FDA requirements.
The manufacturer's examination includes FDA 21 CFR 177.1520, with the specified extractable and soluble fractions reported below the applicable allowance values.
This makes Natural / White HDPE a strong material choice for suitable food-processing components such as bushes, rollers, guides, spacers and other machined parts.

Machining Natural / White HDPE Rod
HDPE can be machined using conventional lathes, mills and drilling equipment with suitable tooling.
Sharp, positive-rake cutting tools are recommended. Avoid excessive heat build-up and maintain good chip clearance because HDPE can soften if too much heat is generated during machining.
HDPE is less rigid and has greater thermal expansion than metals and engineering plastics such as Acetal. Allow for material movement where close dimensional tolerances are required.
Rod is supplied in standard 1000mm lengths. Warlond Plastics does not offer custom cutting or fabrication services for rods.
Natural / White vs Black HDPE — which should I choose?
Natural / White and Black HDPE share many of the same core HDPE characteristics, but the better choice depends on the application.
Can Natural / White HDPE Rod be used outdoors?
Natural / White HDPE has more limited UV resistance than our Black HDPE grade and is not our preferred choice for sustained outdoor UV exposure.
For long-term outdoor applications, we recommend Black HDPE Rod, which is better suited to sustained outdoor and UV-exposed use.

Natural / White HDPE Rod is available from 20mm through to 300mm diameter in 1000mm lengths.

Engineering plastic rod is supplied as semi-finished machining stock and may not be supplied as an exact finished diameter. Allow sufficient machining stock where a specific finished tolerance is required.
Can HDPE Rod be glued or bonded?
HDPE has a low-energy surface and is generally difficult to bond using ordinary adhesives.
Mechanical fastening or plastic welding is often more reliable. Specialised primers, surface treatments and adhesive systems may work for some applications, but suitability should be tested before relying on an adhesive joint.
When might another engineering plastic be better?
HDPE is versatile and economical, but another engineering plastic may be preferable where the application requires greater rigidity, tighter dimensional control, higher load-bearing performance or different friction and temperature characteristics.
